As the eagerly anticipated millennium approached, few could have foreseen that the 2000s would have been quite so ridden with tragedy. As the World Wide Web put news and information firmly in the hands of the people, a seemingly never-ending series of shocking disasters on a monumental scale would reverberate around the world, from the destruction of the Twin Towers in 2001, and the 2004 Asian Tsunami, to the death of Michael Jackson in 2009.
